Bridgend Ath 7 Porthcawl RFC Under 15s 40

Beautiful day for rugby but both teams struggled to put out a full team with 14 players. The 1st half was a Tough game with lots of penalties impacting the flow of the rugby and although we looked the stronger team every time we attacked there was a penalty which reached over 26 in the first half against us. When we got the ball moving we looked good with quick ball an Lex who is relishing playing seven hit a good angle off Mack and powered through the tackle only to look up and hesitate to check if he was really free and then ran though under the posts. Finishing the half seven all. Our scrummage today was again excellent winning two scrummages against the head Richie was purring with piers picking up and scoring from the great work up front. The front row again stood out max LC and Ben tackling and jackled for the ball well and Dex stepping back into tight head we’re so dominant in the scrum. Ash and Finnian behind them both showed up really well in the rucks and line out moves. Max flan dominated the line out pinching Their ball, piers back with his power today with 2 great tries the first the pass to cae was on but backed himself and went under the posts. Beau was dangerous arround the ruck with some lovely little runs and then passing into space, I had two tries of the game first was dex who we have asked to run off the 10 where Dewi took the defence left and popped a lovely inside ball into the space which dex ran a great ark and went half the length of the field. Mack again another strong game with both Dewi and Mack not feeling great but battled through and Mack then broke the defence and with one player holding on powered over the line. Joe playing his first game in the centre had some great runs and one he cut straight through and could have scored but passed to Oscar who was just held short of the line. Oscar eventually got the ball and showed his running skills. Cae who is very quite in the game who ran a supporting line on 3 occasions but just didn’t get the pass but last 15min he went looking and took inside ball abs it took 3 players to bring him down, more to come I’m sure. Second try of the game we stretched the Ath going left then Mack took ball up and drew in the last defender for Finnian running a great supporting line just cantered in for the score. Finnian showed up really well today tackling and running some good angles and stepped up his performance to win man of the match today. Very proud of the boys second half as clearly they were getting frustrated with some of the decisions but trying to argue with a referee is useless. It was good to see the boys turn it around and focus on our rugby which was great. Big credit should also go to Max F for leading the boys and talking to the referee and second half they followed his lead and we then turned on the afterburners. Next week we are home against Maesteg Tries Piers 2, Mack, Finnian, Lex, Dex Cons 5 Mack
