A much improved neath team today gave us a battle and it was nice to see both teams throwing the ball around in the sun. Forwards have been working on their rucks which were much better today and I’m not sure we lost a ruck, although the ball was still slow coming back to the 9 and we didn’t really get our back line firing today.

 

Dex opened the score again driving over in the corner after some good work from the forwards and scoring a similar try later in the game. Piers next on the score board with a well worked forwards move offloading out of the tackle, nice to watch. piers worked hard arround the rucks today imposing himself on the game. What was pleasing for me, was the wingers and fullback looking for work with joe having a great game and could have had a Hattrick today as we had multiple overlaps but we took ball back into contact.  some good runs from Oscar great to see him in full flow and he tackled really well and combined well with Finn who came on for Cae to run from deep. Although the Ball didn’t really come out to Sam or Mack but they tackled really well and Mack powered over in the second half after some great offloading. You can see beau‘s  confidence growing after his man of the match last week and when he was presented with clean ball he fired it out, in second half with a number of plays we moved the opposition left and then back up the middle ball when the ball came out clean creating 3v1 with Dewi accelerating into the gap and throwing a dummy to score under the posts. Dewi also kicked well today moving the opposition around and clearing the defensive lines.

 

Forwards won the game for us today, good upfront tackles and clearing the rucks although we were guilty of running into traffic rather than giving the ball out to the backs today where we got isolated too many times slowing the ball up. When it worked it was great Finnian relentlessly hitting rucks and looks like he will have a shiner tomorrow,  max F everywhere he’s like an extra back row and was rewarded with a well deserved try. The backs that stood out for me today were Oscar, joe, Dewi but the forwards won the game but it was the front row who I thought were all immense, even Richie cracked a smile when we drove their scrum back a number of times today. Max loyd Cole still learning the game tackled like a demon and was quick to the rucks a really strong game followed closely by Ben who made loads of tackles today and his line out throwing was excellent,  although he did get on the wrong side of the referee and picked up a yellow card  for persistent offside. Player of the match was Evs who carried strongly and kept his leg drive going in contact, he scrummaged really well, a high tackle count and for me it was his desire today which we saw in the last 10min  we kicked ahead and Evs was the 1st one to get there chasing down the defence, I think he will sleep well tonight.

 

Next week we are away to Bridgend Ath, I’ve asked for early KO as wales are playing at 3.15pm
