Under 11s Update

Kenfig Hill  40 - 25  PRFC U11s

One year ago Kenfig Hill turned our under 10s (as we were then)  over and the game had to be stopped  because the score differential was more than 50 points. A sad day, but I thought at the time we were better than that and the score didn't truly reflect our players efforts and that we had actually been robbed of an opportunity for our boys to play rugby. That was then, this is now.

Kenfig started full of gusto and scored from the kick off with a great solo effort scoring in the right hand corner. A  few minutes later we had conceded again and at 10 - nil I would be lying if I said that a nagging doubt hadn't crept into my mind about our defeat last year. Luckily for our boys I am not playing and they are made of sterner stuff. The next passages of play were exceptional from both teams, PRFC U11s deciding to play the wider game with some great combinations from the scrum, scrum half, fly half and centres. We were the stronger side in the second section of the first half clawing the score back to a respectable 25 - 20 at half time. The best half of Rugby I seen at this level, I would have paid good money to watch these two two teams go about their tasks.

Rhys Hibbert and Evan Carless had suffered injuries in the first half, Evan unable to carry on and Rhys deciding to soldier on as the walking wounded as we now only had one replacement, normally he would have been asked to not to continue, but Rhys is no quitter. The second half got under way and Kenfig seemed to up there game, mainly because they were being forced to do so by ourselves. A couple of easy tries for them and Zander Kale having  a try turned down after chasing their last defender back across the dead ball area forcing him to drop the ball and grounding it himself, not given, none the less a remarkable piece of individualist skill brought about by having a never give up attitude. Sam Taylor-King getting on the scoresheet for the fourth time in this section with our only score of the second half. Kenfig Hill out right winners and worthy winners it has to be said. This was quality Rugby and I believe it's our long awaited arrival to this season. Final score 40 -25.

We are a million miles from where we were last year and I think we earned the respect of our opposition today as a real force in our region. Should we be  happy with a loss? Damn right we should, performance is everything! We take nothing away from our opposition who were the finest of hosts and respect them all the more because of our commitment to our task.

Meet the players!
Rhys Hibbert, played like a warrior with a point to prove.
Evan Carless, a sublime 20 minutes. Get fit soon!

Max Williams, finding the outside in possession and fearless tackler in defence.
Jac Bevan, fantastic support play a great fullback performance with and without the ball.

Captains Comment.
We were brilliant in parts, we looked balanced in offence and difficult to breakdown at times in defence. I really think that we are better than we think we are and we should take today's positives into training and onto our next game with confidence. My man of the  match has to be Sam Taylor-King with 4 brilliant team tries, awesome!

Try Scorers
Sam Taylor-King.  4
Matthew Davidson.  1
