Youth Travel to Cwmafan

There was a huge improvement from last week’s performance, with most of our youth squad being U17’s and several boys unavailable it was always going to be a tough encounter against a large Cwmafan squad mainly made up of second year youth players.

Cwmafan were first to put points on the board in the first five minutes followed by another quick two tries, however having to work hard at the breakdown to gain any momentum against the determination of the young Porthcawl Team.

Shortly after Porthcawl repaid the favour with the slick hands of Elliot Bennett Connor Mundy Jay Sheen and Alex Williams made easy work in the midfield, with the strength of Sol Kembery and Dom Manaseitava really troubling the Cwmafan forwards putting Dom Manaseitava across the line again.

Porthcawl crossed the try line yet again following a cheeky quick tap penalty by Elliot Bennett who chipped the ball over the Cwmafan defence superbly picked up by Will Jarman taking the score 3 tries to 2

Midway through the third quarter Cwmafan were down to nine men due to a sending off offence, Porthcawl continued to compose themselves and take advantage of the extra man.

The lineout duo Josh Woodbridge and Jacob Green working well together stealing the Cwmafan lineout allowed Porthcawl to take the score to 3 tries each with another superbly well worked try allowing Will Jarman to cross the whitewash for his second try of the match.

Porthcawl took the lead early in the last quarter, with tries from Jack Olding and Iwan Cwmafan with fresh legs continued to apply pressure on Porthcawl crossing the line twice in quick succession showing excellent ball handling skills on the attack taking the score to 5 tries all with minutes to go.

Cwmafan took the lead through another well drilled try, cutting open the Porthcawl backline, the score ended 30 - 25 to Cwmafan.

Porthcawl forwards coaches Ryan Woodbridge and Paul Matthews said we are extremely proud of the determination of this young and exciting squad, who continue to improve week after week.

As a coach that is all you can ask of your players is to learn and improve on what didn’t go right in the last game said Woodbridge, its all positive we will meet on Tuesday and prepare for the local derby against Kenfig Hill on Thursday evening
