Youth Head Coach 2021/22

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Simon (Chuck) Norris as Youth Head Coach for 2021/22 season.

Simon is an experienced and successful performance analyst at elite level with a Masters in Performance Analysis from UWIC, 4 years with the WRU and is currently the Performance Analyst with Bristol Bears who won the European Challenge Cup last season beating Toulon to lift the trophy. Prior to that, Simon had worked with the Exeter Chiefs from 2010 including their Premiership title win in 2017.

Simon is building a strong coaching group around him, who are all ex/current players of Porthcawl with Paul Matthews Forwards coach (ex- Neath, Aberavon and Bridgend 2nd row), Mike Fraser a young backs coach with a bright future and Steve Knipe (ex-Porthcawl) as Team Manager as well as specialist scrum coaching from Ryan Bevington (ex-Wales international).

The current Under 16s coaching set up of Mat Roberts (ex-Porthcawl Scrum Half) and Ryan Woodbridge (WRU Referee) will also move up to Youth to further strengthen the transition from Juniors to Youth.

“I feel as a group we can develop the youth players into a competitive force in the local area” said Simon.

Club Chairman Mr Cliff Hopkins said “ It’s great to have Chuck on board, we are thrilled he’s decided to get involved with his local club. We have an amazing set up here with 14 teams from Under 7s through to Seniors and the new appointment will ensure players continue to develop.”

During lockdown, Simon arranged for Q&A sessions via zoom for the Youth squad to speak with Exeter Chiefs’ and current England international Jonathan Hill and All Black John Afoa as well as British Lion and Bristol Bear’s Kyle Sinckler.
This is an exciting appointment for us and we’re looking forward to the incredible skills and expertise Simon can bring to our Club.
