  • Porthcawl 3 - Bryncoch 0
  • Porthcawl 6 - Ystradgynlais 5

Great day today thanks to Bryncoch for putting on a great festival and all teams and spectators were exemplary which was great all encouraging the players all day. We started the festival a bit like wales, there were some positive signs but we didn't really get motoring especially in defence where every time we scored we let them return a try with our defence static and no line speed. In attack we were spreading the ball well and Dex who clearly was watching George north as he charged forward with a great side step cutting through to score where he played well all day and picked up individual effort for his strong runs and offloads. Another man who was also watching George North and showed some great sidestepping skills is Mackenzie who burst though the defence with great sidesteps and swerves to cross the line and keep us ahead. He was very pleased with his 2 tries which I quickly told him that's not enough as I want five and he only went and done it and I think he would have continued scoring if we hadn't have taken him off in the last 5min. Mac scored 5 tries which is mighty impressive but its his tackling that gave him the award with over 20 tackles showing great line speed to close down the defence. In the second game Dewi got off his sick bed to make an appearance on his birthday scoring our only try in second game where we ended up drawing the first two games which we could have easily won if our defence was stronger. During the break we worked on a few drills to help tackling and hitting contact where we asked the whole team to pick their game up in defence and hunt as a pack. In game three we came out of the blocks flying all pushing up in the line and smashing the opposition back. Bryncoch did not know what hit them wave after wave we tackled them backwards turning over the ball and allowing us to score . Two players making big tackles today was Taylor and Lex both when they hit the player you could here the thud with the wind being taken out of their sails. This opened up space for our runners with Dylan crossing for a Brace and a rejuvenated Piers scoring freely and picking up best try of day. Our defence was so good in the game that Oscar scored a try from smashing back the opposition where ball popped up and Oscar who had charged up was clear to run in the try. Oscar had a great all round game moving the ball out into space showing great footwork and made countless tackles picking up making difference award. Every player put in a shift in the last two games with Scott bursting through tackles, Harry distributing the ball well at scrum half and with a few runs, Ben got his angry face on making a great tackle and driving forward in defence and Jack sidestepping his way through the defence and offloading to oncoming runners. A great day today and thanks to all who played today there is no game next week.
