Bridgend Sports 45 - 5  PRFC U11s

Away to Bridgend Sports on a bright crisp morning at The Rec end of Newbridge Fields. The pitch in a poor state after recent heavy down pours but playable. Our numbers right on the bone with 12 again, picking a balanced side would be of the utmost importance.

Bridgend Sports were dominant and up for it from the start, sadly we were 5 minutes behind them.  Our opposition were superior in all aspects of their play and seemed to play with a simple game plan to the letter.  For us the first half was all about making far to many mistakes, missing tackles and losing shape far to easily.
At half time the players spoke about their frustrations of far too many offsides, hands in rucks, and the usual high tackles not being called. To me me this is all the usual stuff you complain about when you are generally being out played. Team talk was simply make the tackles, ruck better and move the ball away from trouble hotspots quicker and play the full back line.
The second half for us was much better. We had a greater percentage of possession looked better with the ball and actually started to get the ball into the wider open spaces. We scored a very belated try from a great darting effort from Max Williams with the biggest smile from him I think I have ever seen. That's what we play for moments like these. Our players were given nothing today, but it was heartening to see them continue to seek solutions with such endeavour throughout the game. I learned a lot about our character today, and have to say it's very pleasing. Bridgend were just to strong for us and very worthy winners and nothing should be taken away from their players performance.
Our balance throughout the game always looked wrong with some of our players playing in unfamiliar positions, which on reflection should have been changed as soon as it was noticeable. We never really rucked we'll all morning and handling errors were higher than I have ever seen with this group of boys. We did eventually adapt and overcome some of our own demons which is what we take into training. Win the ball, protect the ball. Extract the positives and move on!

Captains comments.
We were better than the score line suggests, too many things not going our way today. We have to make our own luck and dig deeper when it's not going our way, be patient in possession and ruthless when the gaps appear as a team.

Try scorer

Max Williams.  1
