Porthcawl U10s 17 Pentyrch U10s 20

Another narrow loss today, again a game that we could have won. We started the game so well with our defensive line holding them back with 4 or 5 players closing down their space and rucking well.  the breakdown  is normally our week point but today much better. We have been focusing on the ruck in Training and it clearly helped with a number of turnovers won at this area from, Lex, Dexter, piers and Oscar all putting in a shift. When we had the ball we spun the ball wide moving left and right and the gaps opened up,  with Dewi crossing in the left corner followed closely by a superb move that went back and forth, ball moving through the hands until it got out to Samuel who was on fire to sprint up the line and used his strength to get over the line and dually picked up try of the game to go with his  good all-round display. Individual award went to Max where on his second game he made 4tackles and had a number of runs and hit a number of rucks well done, keep it up, this is exactly what we asked him to do. We looked comfortable going into the break 10 nil but when we restarted the second half we forgot to move up in our defensive line and they came back exploiting the gaps in our defence and they soon leveled the score. More disappointing was that we left at least 4 tries out there by not passing the ball. Each week if  we get ahead we start to bunch up and all the players want to score an individual try rather than trust each other and pass it out to the wings. We have to trust the team and move the ball out wide, we will focus on this Wed where I will talk to the team again to make sure we pass the ball into space. Dylan picked up making the difference award as he didn't stop all day even with a couple of bumps early on he kept on tackling his heart out and getting back up to take the ball forward in attack. Top tackler this week goes to Mac who again had a great all-round game again slicing through the defence to score his try and not even I could keep up with him. Mac could have scored many more today  if we passed the ball out more to him in sure. Today he was  awarded  for his defence where he charged up continuously and snuffled their attacks and even hit a few rucks that his dad would have been proud of. Next week we have our return game against Llantwit Fadre where we need to build on the positives from today as I'm sure they will be looking to equal the score next week in the return fixture.
