Under 15s 65 Neath Barbarians 7

With all injuries and covid isolations on both sides today was going to be a challenge but boy did they step up to the mark.

During the warm up they didn’t seem switched on so a quick chat and then a few hits on the pads sorted that out. With only 3 fit forwards Dex, Max and Ashton so we drafted in Lex to get involved in the game and each one of the forwards was outstanding.

Retaining the ball and getting quick ball has been a problem but today the offload out of the tackle and great body positions over the rucks gave  us quick ball for our boys to run. From the start we started strong with Sam scored a quick try from the kick off, then our defence stood up to their attack and we pinched a few turnovers. Stand outs for me was our defence and the rucks were very good.  Difference in defence with Neath cutting  through for a guarantee try but Sam tracked back and made the tackle for Mack to get back and pinch the ball and give to lex to start a counter attack.  Finley had a great game at full back fielding kicks and starting attacks and the last line of defence a number of times and made the tackles. Nice to see joe back and scoring and getting stuck in starting to find his rhythm  again.  Caeron although injured went back on and made a great run at the end and Ashton who made countless tackles run his shoulder and his pop up out of the tackle was great to create the try.

Yesterday watching the firsts play I had a chat with Beau after our 9 scored a sniping run and for beau to keep an eye out for space and dummy and go. Guess what we had quick ball he dummied the pass and sidestepped and I nearly ran into him as he scampered over only to look up and he have a big grin to say what about that one then.

The 9, 10, 12, 13 combination is working well In both defence and attack with all of them getting on the score sheet and some lovely draw and give and offloads between them. Dewi with cross kick and a dummy and went through to score. Mack although not feeling 100% was everywhere scoring at will and enjoying the space and today passing was great putting joe and Sam away in the outside channels. Very hard to pick man of the match today Ashton really stood out, max flan dominated the rucks and led from the front, dex was everywhere and offloading out of tackles and rewarded with a try and Mack and Sam in midfield ran the show and fin our last line of defence. But for me his first full game Lex who tackled everything ran some good angles and hit all the rucks and playing as a forward he really gave it all. Very proud of the boys and the way we played a number of people mentioned how attractive the rugby we played and the offloads. Let’s get the boys all out training and also encourage a few more to come and join or rejoin. Next week we are away at tailbach let’s keep on building from here.
